Some 1,000 guests from politics, business, religious communities and the cultural scene attended the event. The Bavarian State was represented by Bavarian State Minister for Justice Dr. Beate Merk. Consul General Rooney challenged the guests with a quiz on U.S. presidential quotes as an essential part of his speech. In their remarks both Consul General Rooney and State Minister Dr. Merk emphasized peace and freedom as cornerstones of democracy in Western countries.
