**IMPORTANT**
NEW: There has been a change in United States law regarding passport issuance for minorsEffective February 1, 2008 children under 16 years of age must apply in person with both parents.  If for some reason one parent can not attend, then he or she must submit a notarized letter of consent.  The notarized letter of consent must be in the English language and can be notarized at the American Consulate free of charge.  Consulates will also accept letters of consent notarized by non-American notaries.  Alternatively, the parent applying for the passport must submit proof of sole custody.

Except in emergencies, US passports are now produced at facilities in the United States. This change will increase processing time by approximately one to two weeks. Please take this extra time into consideration when applying for or renewing passports at an Embassy or Consulate, and plan your travel accordingly.

If you pay by cashier's/bank check or money order, please write your American Social Security number on the check/money order. The number is required for electronic processing purposes.
If you do not have an American Social Security number, then we cannot accept a cashier's/bank check or money order from you.

Note on Passport Photographs
U.S. passport photos are different from German passport photos and many photographers in Germany are not familiar with U.S. passport photo specifications. We strongly recommend that you print out the photo requirements for U.S. Passports and take them with you to the photographer!
